A Sense of Belonging: Revolutionizing Veterinary Hospitals

Daniel Hu's Award-Winning Design Infuses Tranquility and Safety into Pet Healthcare

Renowned designer Daniel Hu has reimagined the traditional veterinarian hospital, creating a space that exudes tranquility, reverence, and safety. Drawing inspiration from prehistoric Stone Age dwellings, Hu's design instills a sense of belonging, transforming the often-stressful experience of visiting the vet into a calming, reassuring encounter for both pets and their owners.

Daniel Hu's design, aptly named "Sense of Belonging," is a departure from the typical clinical aesthetic of veterinary hospitals. Instead of sterile white walls and cold, impersonal spaces, Hu has created a warm, welcoming environment that speaks to the comfort and well-being of its visitors. The design's unique features include a specially designed ceiling, humble elevation, and color-coordinated flooring, all of which contribute to a serene spatial ambiance.

Utilizing materials such as special paint, nanoboard, metalwork, kassod tree, glass, and mirror, Hu has successfully carved out a seamless connection between work and living. The interior area spans 255 square meters, providing ample space for a counter and waiting area, separate waiting areas for cats and dogs, and long benches that encourage interaction amongst pet owners.

One of the key challenges Hu faced in realizing this design was the site's dense, low beams and deep entrance without windows. However, by using caves and arcs as a spatial concept, Hu was able to create visual effects that negate the problem of insufficient space height. The long-facing channel wall separates different interactive functions, allowing for community exhibitions or information teaching.

The "Sense of Belonging" design is not just a space for visiting physicians, but also a shared environment that allows art to permeate through the city. It's a testament to Hu's belief that a veterinarian hospital should interact with the community, serving as a gallery of sorts. This innovative approach to design has earned Hu the Silver A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2019, a prestigious accolade that recognizes creative and professionally remarkable designs.

Located on Heping East Road in Taipei City, Taiwan, the "Sense of Belonging" veterinarian hospital is a testament to Daniel Hu's innovative approach to design. It's a space that not only caters to the physical needs of pets but also considers their emotional well-being and the comfort of their owners. It's a design that truly embodies the concept of a sense of belonging, providing a safe, tranquil space for all who enter.
